Gameplay and Mechanics

This sequel marks a complete rebuild of the original Codename CURE. Players navigate maps utilizing a system of random tiles, ensuring that room layouts and routes shift between runs. The core loop tasks a squad of up to five players with entering a map, locating the infected, and clearing the area.

Combat is defined by a detailed gore system where limbs and heads can be removed based on impact points. The game also features a dynamic fire system that allows flesh and clothing to burn away during extended engagements. Squads must contend with various threats, including fast-moving "Zogs" and the "Disciple," a boss that can spawn at random intervals during a mission to force players into unplanned combat encounters.

Squad Roles and Progression

Between missions, players return to CURE HQ to manage their gear, test weaponry, and check their rank progression. The game features five distinct class roles to support team composition:

  • Pointman
  • Support
  • Assault
  • Technician
  • Sniper

Each class offers unique weapon loadouts and add-ons. If a squad is not full, AI teammates can fill empty slots and utilize unlocked gear to assist the player.

Combat Specialist Pack

Alongside the base game, Raptor Byte has released the Combat Specialist Pack. While the game itself is free, this add-on is priced at $9.99, though it is currently available with a 20% launch discount. The pack includes:

  • New Weapons: SPAR12-SA (semi-auto shotgun for Pointman) and SPAR12-PA (pump shotgun for Technician).
  • Equipment: A Patriot sidearm, tactical suppressor, holo sight, and micro cobra dot sight.

Linux and Steam Deck Compatibility
