Konami producer Tsutomu Taniguchi is behind the development of Castlevania: Belmont's Curse, a project born from a desire to bring long-time genre fans into the franchise. In a recent interview with Famitsu, Taniguchi explained that while the term "Metroidvania" is a staple of gaming, he noticed a disconnect where many enthusiasts had never experienced a Castlevania title, often only engaging with the property through the animated series.
Quick Facts

- Development Goal: Expanding the player base for those who enjoy the genre but are new to the franchise.

Bridging the Gap for New Players
Taniguchi, a long-time fan of the series himself, stated that his goal as both a Konami employee and a supporter of the games was to create accessible entry points. Prior to proposing Belmont's Curse, he oversaw efforts to port older titles through various collections, including the Castlevania Anniversary Collection (2019), the Castlevania Advance Collection (2021), and the 2024 Castlevania Dominus Collection.
Despite these re-releases, Taniguchi noted the absence of Symphony of the Night from modern collections—it hasn't appeared in one since The Dracula X Chronicles on the PSP. To further supplement the series' presence, the team also collaborated on Dead Cells DLC to expose new audiences to the brand.
A New Addition to the Series
Ultimately, Taniguchi felt that re-releases and collaborations were only part of the solution. "I also wanted to see something new, so I proposed Castlevania: Belmont's Curse," he told Famitsu. The title arrives on October 15, 2026, aimed at providing an original experience for those who have yet to dive into the franchise's history.
