Activision's Call of Duty ports for Black Ops and Black Ops 2 have significantly outperformed Halo: Campaign Evolved on PlayStation consoles, according to market analysis data shared in August 2026.

July Sales Estimates

Data posted by Alinea Analytics head of market analysis Rhys Elliott ranks Activision's Call of Duty ports at the top of July's best-selling games on PlayStation. Black Ops 2 led the month with an estimated 8.2 million copies sold, while the original Black Ops port reached an estimated 3 million copies.

By comparison, Halo: Campaign Evolved launched with an estimated 351,000 copies sold on PlayStation. US launch data further illustrates the gap, placing Halo as the 4th most popular game on Xbox at launch but only 29th on PlayStation 5.

Pricing and Launch Discounts

Market analysts point to pricing strategies and launch incentives as major factors in the sales divergence. While the Call of Duty ports launched at a higher baseline price, they included a significant limited-time discount for PlayStation Plus subscribers.

Conversely, Halo: Campaign Evolved released with a $60 price tag for what analysis describes as a graphical touch-up of a 2001 game, contributing to a slower start on Sony's platform alongside diminished brand traction on PlayStation over the past decade and a half.
