Tim Curry passed away at the age of 80, leaving behind an extensive body of work in movies, television, and videogames. In Brütal Legend, he voiced the villainous Doviculus, the Cenobite-coded Emperor of the Tainted Coil. The role was originally intended for heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio, but director Tim Schafer ultimately cast Curry. "Tim Curry just has the perfect voice," Schafer told USA Today regarding the casting decision, noting that Curry loved the character's mix of toughness and kinky theatricality.

With the promotion active at the time of writing, players have a little over nine hours remaining to grab the game before the 666-minute window closes. This marks the second time Double Fine has offered the game for free following a tribute; a previous promotion honored Ozzy Osbourne, who also made a cameo in the game as the Guardian of Metal shopkeeper.
