Blizzard has moved quickly to address player frustration regarding the current state of Diablo 4. Following a wave of feedback concerning the Season of Death Awakening, the developer has deployed a hotfix that removes the restrictive equip limits on crafted Mythic Uniques and boosts drop rates for high-end gear.
Quick Facts
- Equip Limit Removed: Players can now equip as many crafted Mythic Uniques as they want, removing the previous one-item cap.
- Drop Rate Buff: Mythic Unique drop rates have been increased specifically for the Corrupted Reaper boss fight.
- Currency Value: Both Resplendent Sparks and Pandemonium Fragments have regained utility, as players can now freely utilize crafted gear alongside naturally dropped items.
- Upcoming Rewards: Next week, players can expect additional payouts of Superior Lair Keys and improved drop rates for Mythic Tributes in the Kurast Undercity.
Why the Change Was Necessary
The previous patch, which arrived just last week, aimed to make crafting Mythic Uniques more accessible by increasing material availability. However, the community quickly pointed out a major flaw: while crafting became easier, the hard cap of wearing only one crafted Mythic at a time rendered the process largely pointless, especially since crafted versions were often outperformed by natural drops.
Live Service Design Director Dan Tanguay acknowledged these concerns in a recent forum post, confirming that the team had heard the criticism regarding the Season of Death Awakening. By removing the equip limit, Blizzard has effectively restored the value of both primary crafting currencies. While the process of upgrading to a Mythic via Pandemonium Fragments remains a random roll rather than a deterministic path, the removal of the equip cap makes the system significantly more rewarding for players looking to finalize their builds.
Looking Ahead to Next Week
The developer is not stopping with today’s hotfix. Blizzard has confirmed that further adjustments are arriving next week to help players hunt for the game's rarest loot. This includes additional payouts for Superior Lair Keys via the Glints of Hope seasonal reputation turn-in, as well as higher drop rates for Mythic Tributes in the Kurast Undercity.
Regarding the future of gear progression, Tanguay noted that while not every experimental idea in the current season lands as intended, the development team intends to keep iterating based on player feedback. The studio is also actively investigating natural drop chances for Iconic Mythics to ensure that the endgame grind remains satisfying for the remainder of the season.
