A new update for Bills Must Be Paid is now live, introducing significant quality-of-life improvements including a multi-slot save system and fixes for long-standing technical issues on PC and Mac.

Save Management and Cloud Sync

Players now have access to three distinct save slots. Your previous progress has been automatically migrated to Slot 1. The 'New Game' button has also been updated to prevent accidental deletion of existing save files. Additionally, the developers have resolved Steam Cloud issues, ensuring that saves now sync correctly between PC and Mac devices while preventing Family Sharing accounts from overlapping save data or achievements.

Technical Fixes and Visuals

The update addresses several stability concerns, including a crash that occurred during the loading bar on specific Windows setups. Players no longer need to manually delete the D3D12 folder to launch the game. Visual fidelity has also been improved for those playing on lower graphics settings, fixing blurry Collection Books and Bills, as well as resolving a resolution issue for users on Medium settings.

Gameplay and Balance Adjustments

  • Double or Nothing: You can now select your preferred coin side before flipping using right-click or R1.
  • Piggy Shuffle: The 'wobble' animation has been removed, as it previously acted as an unintended tell for the winner.
  • Skill Tree: The menu now retains your pan and zoom position, and you can switch tabs using the Q and E keys.
  • Balance Changes: The 'Fresh Start' coin is now guaranteed not to appear as the last coin collected. Two late-game skill tree nodes have seen cost adjustments: 'Second Wind' is now $6M (up from $3.75M) and 'Last Stand' is now $35M (up from $13M).

Accessibility options have also been expanded; disabling 'Motion Effects' now fully turns off hammer camera movement, screen distortion, and menu parallax. Mouse behavior has been updated to lock only while aiming, leaving your cursor free during menus and pauses.

These changes are available immediately upon updating the game through your Steam client.
