To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the original Quake, publisher Bethesda has released a new campaign chapter titled "Dawn of the Machine." The content is available now as an official addition to the game.

Development and Scope

This mission pack is the work of MachineGames in collaboration with id Software. The maps themselves were produced by a collective known as "Quake Club," which consists of several MachineGames employees who develop Quake content in their spare time.

According to the announcement, the scope of these new maps exceeds the typical design standards of the late 1990s. This increase in ambition is attributed to the use of TrenchBroom, a modern map editor that offers improved capabilities and accessibility compared to the tools originally used for the game.

Industry Context

MachineGames, currently recognized for their work on the recent Wolfenstein reboot series and the upcoming Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, continues to maintain a connection to the Quake franchise through these ongoing campaign releases. While this update provides new content for existing players, the announcement did not specify plans for further future expansions or additional titles in the series.
