Bethesda has officially outlined its development pipeline for the coming years, confirming that Fallout 5 is now in preproduction. The announcement follows a period of organizational changes at Microsoft, with the studio shifting to a more transparent communication strategy regarding its future projects.

Quick Facts

  • Fallout 5 is currently in preproduction.
  • The Elder Scrolls VI remains the studio's primary development focus.
  • Remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are officially in the works.
  • All upcoming titles are being built on Creation Engine 3.
  • A new Fallout project in collaboration with Obsidian Entertainment is underway.

Shared Technology and Development Focus

The studio confirmed that The Elder Scrolls VI and Fallout 5 are being assembled on Creation Engine 3. This shared technology platform was developed following the launch of Starfield and is designed to allow teams to support multiple projects simultaneously. By utilizing new tools, rendering systems, and shared assets, Bethesda intends to streamline development across its internal projects.

While Fallout 5 has entered the preproduction stage, The Elder Scrolls VI continues to be the studio's primary focus, with the majority of the team currently assigned to the title.

Fallout Remasters and New Projects

Beyond the next mainline entry in the series, Bethesda has confirmed that remasters for Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are in development. Concrete release dates for these projects have not yet been provided.

The studio is also collaborating with Obsidian Entertainment on a separate, as-of-yet unnamed Fallout project. Additionally, Fallout 76 is scheduled to receive a major expansion next year titled Raven Rock, which will serve as a prequel story to the events of Fallout 3.

Future Plans for Starfield

Bethesda also provided an update regarding Starfield, confirming that the title will continue to receive support. Plans for next year include new stories, gameplay improvements, and additional content centered on the Starborn.

ZeniMax Online Studios will continue to support The Elder Scrolls Online while partnering closely with Bethesda Game Studios on the broader The Elder Scrolls franchise.
