Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced is officially available as of July 9, 2026, but the launch has been far from smooth. While the title arrived with hopes that it would be a win for publisher Ubisoft, the game is currently facing a wave of negative feedback on Steam, primarily driven by player frustration over its monetization practices.

A Storm of Microtransactions

The core of the community's anger stems from the sheer volume of DLC offered on day one. Many players feel that content has been intentionally carved out of the base game to be sold back to them as extras. One negative review highlighted that there was over $84 worth of additional content available to purchase the moment the game went live, content that is not fully covered even by the game's higher-tier Deluxe Edition.

The list of paid extras currently causing friction includes six separate character and naval packs, as well as a map pack. Specifically, players can purchase:

  • Hellfire Character Pack
  • Hellfire Naval Pack
  • Sea Serpent Character Pack
  • Sea Serpent Naval Pack
  • Dragon Storm Character Pack
  • Dragon Storm Naval Pack
  • Map Pack

With the exception of one €4.99 item, these packs are priced at €9.99 each. For those who already invested in the Deluxe Edition, seeing a massive slate of additional purchases immediately upon booting the game has left a notably sour impression.

Technical Hurdles and Studio News

Beyond the monetization complaints, the game’s reception has been hindered by technical gripes. A subset of the player base has reported a 30FPS lock during cutscenes. While this has drawn criticism, some users have noted that manually tweaking game settings can resolve the issue, suggesting it may not be a hard-coded limitation.

The launch of Black Flag Resynced also arrives during a difficult period for the developer. Reports surfaced on the day of release that Ubisoft has undergone further internal restructuring, resulting in 51 employees losing their jobs. This news has only added to the critical atmosphere surrounding the game's arrival on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S/X.

While the game initially saw "mostly negative" reviews on Steam, the status has since shifted to "mixed" as the community continues to weigh in on the experience. Whether Ubisoft will address the player concerns regarding the volume of day-one DLC remains to be seen.
