Gameplay and Technical Scope
As a direct sequel to the 2021 cooperative shooter, Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 shifts the series to a four-player cooperative structure. Players are tasked with surviving waves of Xenomorphs and Synth enemies using a variety of character classes and deep customization options. These include specialized gear like stun batons and elemental ammunition types, such as pyro and electric rounds.
The campaign supports solo play, filling empty squad slots with three AI-controlled bots. While these bots are capable of reviving players, the mechanic is limited, requiring teams to restart from the last checkpoint if a player is downed permanently. Outside of the campaign, the game features dedicated Horde Mode maps focused on high-intensity survival.
Built on Unreal Engine 5, the game emphasizes arcade-style combat speed. Development has focused on utilizing reusable assets to ensure performance stability during combat encounters against mini-bosses and large enemy swarms. Specific graphical details and potential cross-play limitations for the Nintendo Switch 2 version have not yet been disclosed.
