Epic Games has rolled out a sweep of weapon and storm mechanic changes in Fortnite, marking the first major adjustment to late-game storm circles in seven months. Deployed on Monday, July 27, 2026, the update is live across platforms in the battle royale game, bringing faster closures to endgame phases and a significant shakeup to the active loot pool.

Faster Storm Circles and Endgame Pacing
The most substantial gameplay adjustment targets positioning during the final squads standing. While early-game pacing remains unaffected, storm circles now close more rapidly in the later phases of a match. This active trial gives players less time to execute late rotations.
Epic Games noted that this change is an active trial and is actively gathering player feedback on whether late rotations remain feasible and if match pacing feels improved. Alongside this pacing shift, the triangle-shaped storm configuration introduced on December 12, 2025, has been removed entirely.
Loot Pool and Weapon Adjustments
Underneath the weather changes, Epic has rebalanced several weapons across the island:
- Pistols: Standard handguns are massively reduced in the loot pool, while Bank Shot Pistols see an increase in spawn rates along with improved damage and easier bounce shot mechanics. Mythic Ranger Pistols have been nerfed.
- Rifles: Surgical Burst Rifles gain better overall damage and aim, making them more viable options. Normal assault rifles are undergoing ongoing rebalancing throughout the season.
- SMGs: Rapid Fire SMGs now hold more bullets per magazine.
- Shields: Guardian Shields drain much quicker at full charge, and their recharge speed is drastically reduced to pull back on defensive power.
