The Divine Comedy Reimagined as a Psychological Thriller
Based loosely on Dante Alighieri’s The Divine Comedy, the title casts players as Gabriele Alighieri. Every 33 years, the barrier between reality and Hell fades. Gabriele must return to his ancestral home to perform a ritual that keeps the gates of Hell sealed, confronting a modern interpretation of the Inferno.
“When most people think of Dante or Dante’s Inferno, they imagine something very concrete: monsters, demons, action,” said creative director Emanuele Miccianza in a press release. “When I read the Divine Comedy, I didn’t see an action story; I saw a person going through an inner journey. That became our central idea: Hell is internal.”
Game director Gaia Righelli added that the studio focused on “the fear of being seen” rather than simply the fear of dying. “Because sometimes the most terrifying thing is someone or something that understands you completely.”
Gameplay and Two Converging Realities
Players will search for lost, magical pages of the Divine Comedy to perform the sealing ritual while solving esoteric puzzles and uncovering diary pages detailing the Alighieri bloodline.
The journey takes place across two converging realities:
- The Villa: Exploration of the silent, melancholic halls of an Italian manor.
- The Dive: Venturing across the threshold into a distorted reflection of infernal depths.
