Every year, Blizzard Entertainment leans into pure chaos with its Overwatch April Fools’ Day events, where hero kits are cranked to absurd levels. While the current “Community Crafted” mode isn't a direct April Fools' patch, it carries that same spirit of "forget balance, give me chaos." Designed by prominent community members Guxue, Apply, Ocie, and mL7support, the mode introduces radical tweaks to almost every hero in the roster, save for the newcomer Shion.
A Playground for Absurdity
The changes range from subtle adjustments to outright madness. Take Soldier: 76, for example: his Biotic Field is now a mobile ability he carries with him, and his Tactical Visor Ultimate targets all on-screen enemies simultaneously. It’s the kind of game-breaking fun typically reserved for limited-time events, but it offers a fascinating look at what happens when the community takes the reins of game design.
Other highlights include Ana receiving a jetpack and double healing on critical headshots, and the legendary Jetpack Cat—now a heavy artillery drone capable of carrying Torbjorn and Symmetra turrets on her back.
Key Hero Revisions
The patch notes cover an extensive list of changes. For Tank mains, the adjustments are particularly transformative:
- D.Va: Defense Matrix now converts absorbed damage into additional Self-Destruct damage, and her pilot form has received buffs to both survivability and lethality.
- Doomfist: Rising Uppercut returns, and Power Block can now empower any ability rather than just Rocket Punch.
- Mauga: Embracing a selfish playstyle, Mauga’s Cardiac Overdrive no longer affects allies, instead converting damage taken into a healing resource he can trigger at will.
- Ramattra: His Void Barrier now lasts indefinitely, and his Annihilation Ultimate features 100% lifesteal.
Damage heroes have seen equally wild shifts. Junkrat’s Frag Launcher projectile speed has been significantly increased to 112.5 m/s, though his health is reduced to 200. Bastion has been transformed into a “speed demon,” moving 35% faster in assault configuration, while Sombra’s flanker identity has been restored with a more flexible Translocator that persists indefinitely on the ground.
Support and Utility Tweaks
Utility-heavy heroes aren't left out of the mix. Symmetra’s Teleporter now grants a 30% speed boost to allies, and her turrets can target enemies while mid-flight. Meanwhile, Tracer players can now share their Recall ability with allies within 5 meters, and enemies can shoot off a stuck Pulse Bomb if they react within the extended 3-second delay.
While these changes currently reside within the Community Crafted mode, the sheer scale of the redesigns suggests Blizzard may be using the feedback to identify potential future reworks. For now, it remains a rare opportunity to play an version of Overwatch where balance takes a backseat to pure, high-octane experimentation.
