A cosmetic error has been identified in Marvel Rivals following the release of the new Van Dyne skin for Magneto. Players have pointed out that the character's Auschwitz identification tattoo, a defining element of his backstory, displays an incorrect number and a different font style than previous iterations.
Quick Facts
- Character: Magneto
- Skin: Van Dyne
- The Error: The tattoo reads 214786 instead of the established 214782.
- Developer/Publisher: NetEase Games
- Platform Availability: PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S/X
Magneto’s backstory as a Holocaust survivor is a central pillar of the character's history. In Marvel comics and film adaptations, he is depicted with a prisoner number tattooed on his left arm after being held at Auschwitz during World War II. The number 214782 has been the standard identifier for the character, and it appears correctly on several of his other Marvel Rivals skins.
Community members, including Reddit user Dejuna1, highlighted that the Van Dyne skin features the number 214786. Additionally, players noted that the font used for the tattoo on this specific cosmetic appears more stylized and jovial compared to the stark, clinical aesthetic typically associated with such historical details.
This is not the first time Marvel Rivals has faced scrutiny over cosmetic assets. Since the game's launch on December 6, 2024, players have reported several other visual oversights, such as missing character hands on the Zombie Doctor Strange skin, the word “Goot” being carved onto Groot, and adjustments made to Captain America’s swimsuit skin.
While some players have speculated that the number change could be an intentional choice for an alternate universe version of the character, the consensus among the community is that it is an unintentional error by developer NetEase Games. Based on previous instances where similar visual mistakes were addressed through updates, it is expected that the studio will likely release a fix to correct the tattoo in a future patch.
