Engine Technology and Perspective Switching

Holstin is built using Sonka's proprietary 2XD Rendering technology. The engine powers real-time lighting and dynamic camera perspectives across the cursed, ooze-covered town of Jeziorne-Kolonia.

Players can rotate the camera across eight different angles. The game allows seamless switching between multiple perspectives depending on the immediate situation:

  • Isometric 3D view
  • Over-the-shoulder perspective during tense combat
  • First-person driving
  • Top-down exploration
  • Side-scrolling platforming

Setting, Story, and Survival Mechanics

The story follows protagonist Tomasz Wolanski on a mission to the rural, lakeside town of Jeziorne-Kolonia to search for his missing friend, an investigative journalist who was last seen there.

Surviving the town's monstrosities requires scavenging for weapons and supplies. Players must also interact with the few remaining townsfolk, playing along with their delusions as their sanity fades. Gaining their trust can yield clues and puzzle solutions, requiring cunning and tact to uncover their secrets.

The game is set in 1990s post-Soviet Eastern Europe, with a specific focus on Poland. Environment details including furniture, household objects, brands, signage, architecture, and interior design are crafted to evoke the era.

Audio and Localization

Holstin features a fully voiced cast in both Polish and English. The soundtrack is composed by the Polish alternative-rock band Heima, featuring full vocals and lyrics in Polish. The first single from the soundtrack, titled "Skaza," is currently available on major streaming platforms.
