With the release of Echoes of Aincrad just around the corner, Game Studio Inc. and Bandai Namco Entertainment have pulled back the curtain on what players can expect when they log in. The game is set to launch on July 9, 2026, across PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with pre-load options currently available for console players.
Surviving the 100 Floors
In this title, you’ll step into the shoes of an early beta player for a VRMMORPG. The core premise follows the familiar narrative of being trapped alongside 10,000 other players in a fight for survival. Your goal is to clear 100 floors, each filled with deadly dungeons and powerful monsters. While the game features a wide array of quests and tasks on every floor, it is strictly a single-player experience; your companions throughout the journey are autonomous NPCs.
Customization and Combat
Rather than traditional classes, Echoes of Aincrad utilizes a weapon-based system. There are six distinct weapons available, ranging from the classic sword and shield to a precise rapier. Each weapon offers a unique, customizable move set. As you defeat foes, you can collect loot to strengthen your gear, and you will unlock new blueprints as you progress through the game. While you are technically a solo player, you aren't fighting alone: you can bring up to three autonomous partners into real-time battles. You can manage their positioning and abilities to gain a tactical edge during combat encounters.
The Death Game Mode
For players looking to replicate the high-stakes tension of the anime, the game includes a specific "Death Game Mode." If you die in this mode, your save data is deleted and cannot be recovered. Players who purchase the Deluxe or Ultimate Edition will have access to this mode immediately, while standard owners can unlock it after completing the main story.
Looking further ahead, the developers have confirmed that Echoes of Aincrad is set to receive its first DLC on December 31, 2026. While no further details on the content of that update have been shared, it provides a clear roadmap for post-launch support. If you are planning to jump in on launch day, remember that console pre-loads are live now, so you can prepare for the climb to the 100th floor.
