Echofall Games has announced Deepward, a new fast-paced first-person shooter with roguelite mechanics. The developer, which consists of key talent formerly from Madfinger Games and HGames-ArtWorks, is positioning the title as a challenging experience where every death and wound carries significant weight.

Quick Facts

  • Developer: Echofall Games
  • Genre: FPS / Roguelite
  • Planned Release: 2027 (Steam)
  • Key Features: Sanity system, six playable characters, and a hellish mansion/labyrinth setting.

Gameplay and Setting

Set within the "Depths," Deepward takes place in a cursed estate located in the Carpathian forests. The environment is designed as a mix of a sprawling, eerie mansion and a cavernous labyrinth, featuring locations such as acid rivers and torture chambers. Players will navigate these areas while battling monstrosities.

The game features a roster of six distinct characters, each equipped with their own unique weapons, abilities, and health meters. Combat is described as fast-paced, with the announcement trailer showcasing dual-wielding mechanics and intense encounters against hordes of enemies.

The Sanity System

Beyond traditional combat, Deepward incorporates a sanity system inspired by Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem. As players venture deeper into the estate, they must contend with hallucinations, unearthly whispers, and visual distortions. This psychological pressure is intended to mirror the game's soundtrack, blurring the lines between reality and madness for the player's party of mercenaries.

Release Window

While an official announcement trailer has been released, there is currently no precise launch date for the game. Echofall Games is targeting a 2027 release for the Steam version. The developer has confirmed that a playtest is expected to arrive in the near future for those looking to get their hands on the game sooner.
