Compulsion Games, the studio recently divested by Xbox, has announced it is shifting its focus toward new partnerships. In a recent post on LinkedIn, the developer confirmed it is looking to "collaborate with studios across the games and entertainment industry" to support the creation of new, memorable experiences.
Quick Facts
- Status: The studio is now an independent developer.
- IP Portfolio: Compulsion Games retains full rights to South of Midnight, We Happy Few, and Contrast.
- Recent Recognition: The team's recent work on South of Midnight earned a BAFTA Award, a Peabody Award, seven Canadian Game Awards, and multiple 'Best Games of 2025' recognitions.
The studio, which had been acquired by Xbox in 2018, recently parted ways with the publisher. In the wake of this transition, the team expressed gratitude for the support provided during their tenure under Xbox, stating, "We're grateful for the years we spent with XBOX, for the support they provided our team, and for the opportunity to bring these games to players around the world."
Future Collaboration Plans
As the studio transitions back to operating independently, it is positioning itself as a partner for other developers. Compulsion Games stated that they are inviting partners to "leverage the talent and creativity" of the team that produced South of Midnight. The studio emphasized that it intends to bring its "artistry, technical expertise and collaborative approach" to future projects.
While the studio moves forward as an independent entity, it has made it clear that its primary goal remains the development of distinctive, high-quality interactive entertainment. "As an independent studio, we're excited to continue building the distinctive games that define Compulsion while taking the next steps in our journey," the team noted.
