Console player habits remain remarkably consistent across platforms, with U.S. weekly active user data showing that PlayStation and Xbox share nearly identical top-played games. Circana senior director and video game industry advisor Mat Piscatella shared the platform breakdowns on Bluesky, mapping out the top 20 most-played titles for each console based on Circana's tracking.
The Familiar Top Ten
Fortnite sits at the number one spot across both PlayStation and Xbox. The rest of the top ten features a heavily overlapping lineup in slightly shifted orders, dominated by long-running live service hits and annual sports titles.
The shared top 10 includes Roblox, Call of Duty (via its centralized app where Warzone is hosted), Grand Theft Auto 5 Remastered, Marvel Rivals, Rainbow Six Siege, and NBA 2K26. A few platform divergences break up the uniformity: Xbox features Minecraft and Forza Horizon 6 in its top ten, with the latter still unreleased on PlayStation 5. Palworld stands out as the sole title from a non-established franchise to break into the top ten on these platforms.
Certain games also skew heavily toward Sony's ecosystem. The Call of Duty series claims two spots in the PlayStation top ten thanks to the central app alongside Black Ops 2, while EA Sports College Football 27 also performs notably stronger on PlayStation.
Expanded Top 20 Lists and New Additions
When expanded to a full top 20, the lists continue to be dominated by industry mainstays like Battlefield 6, Apex Legends, Rocket League, Dead by Daylight, EA Sports FC 26, and Madden NFL 26. True newcomers remain rare in the upper tiers.
Only one new game managed to reach the top 20 on each respective platform list. Xbox welcomed the indie horror game Shift at Midnight, which currently lacks a PlayStation 5 version. On PlayStation, the Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls beta secured the single new arrival slot.
Platform oddities also appear further down the rankings. Dead by Daylight appears in the top 20 exclusively on PlayStation, whereas Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced lands only on the Xbox list.
How Steam Compares
By contrast, Steam maintains a noticeably more diversified player count. Because Fortnite is unavailable on Valve's platform, it is entirely absent from the PC rankings.
Instead, Steam's top 10 mixes long-running games with indie hits such as Meccha Chameleon and Slay the Spire 2. The platform also hosts titles entirely absent from PlayStation and Xbox, including Helldivers 2, Destiny 2, and Valve's unreleased invite-only beta for Deadlock, which sits at number seven despite its restricted access.
