Publisher Activision, alongside developers Treyarch and Iron Galaxy, has officially brought Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Black Ops II to modern PlayStation hardware. Both classic titles are now available for purchase and play on the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.
To celebrate the launch, Activision is offering a limited-time discount. Each game is priced at $19.99 until August 6, 2026. After this date, the price for each title will increase to $39.99.
Bringing Classic Call of Duty to Modern Consoles
While the Xbox 360 and PC versions of these titles have remained playable on modern hardware via backwards compatibility or Steam, this marks the first time these specific entries have been available on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 platforms. It is important to note that the original PlayStation 3 discs are not compatible with newer PlayStation consoles, making this digital release the only way for players on these systems to access these specific versions.
What to Expect from the Black Ops Ports
The re-releases bring the original 2010 and 2012 experiences to a new generation of players. Call of Duty: Black Ops offers its signature cinematic single-player campaign, classic multiplayer modes, and the original Zombies experience, tasking players with covert operations during the Cold War. Call of Duty: Black Ops II shifts the focus to a near-future 21st-century setting, where players navigate a new generation of warfare defined by evolving technology and weaponry.
These ports join a growing list of classic titles making their way to current-gen systems, providing a bridge for fans looking to revisit earlier entries in the PlayStation library.
