Quick Facts
- Publisher: Take-Two Interactive
- Developer: Rockstar Games
- Target Companies: Microsoft and Discord
- Subpoena Deadline: September 4, 2026
- Game: Grand Theft Auto VI (PS5, Xbox Series S/X)
Take-Two Interactive has initiated legal action to identify the person or group behind the recent Grand Theft Auto VI leaks. The publisher has filed subpoenas in a New York federal court, requesting that Microsoft and Discord provide records that could unmask the user known as 'Cyberleek.'
The leaker has circulated gameplay footage showing vehicle operation, NPC interactions, and other mechanics. While the individual claims the leaks are intended to highlight issues regarding digital pre-orders and consumer rights, the videos have also been used to promote a cryptocurrency.
What the Subpoenas Request
Take-Two is seeking to identify the user behind the 'Cyberleek' persona by requesting specific data from both platforms. The company has clarified that these requests do not imply that Microsoft or Discord are involved in the leaks, but rather that their platforms were used to facilitate the distribution of unreleased content.
For Microsoft, the publisher is seeking business and investigative records related to the company’s own internal investigation into the persona. This includes information from OneDrive accounts that may contain files related to Rockstar Games or the leak itself.
The request to Discord focuses on user accounts that participated in specific servers where the footage was shared. Take-Two has requested:
- Account IDs and registration email addresses.
- Registration and last-login IP addresses.
- Linked connections (such as Google or Xbox accounts).
- Device identifiers and telemetry records.
What Remains Unknown
As of August 2026, the New York federal court has not publicly confirmed whether the subpoenas have been approved or fulfilled. Neither Microsoft nor Discord has issued a public response regarding the requests. While Take-Two is aggressively pursuing the removal of the leaked clips and screenshots online, the legal process to identify the responsible party is ongoing.
