NetEase Games has announced a free Legendary upgrade for Storm's upcoming Sacred Skies summer skin in Marvel Rivals. The decision follows community backlash after Storm's outfit was initially revealed as an Epic tier while other heroes received Legendary summer skins.

What the Legendary Upgrade Includes
The free upgrade bumps the Sacred Skies outfit up to Legendary status without increasing its $16 price tag—which is lower than the typical $22 cost for Legendary skins. Players who purchase the skin will receive an all-new lobby animation, an updated MVP animation, and an Ultimate effect upgrade.
NetEase has not yet confirmed a specific release date for the upgrade. The developer stated that the changes take time to build, prompting players to pick up the skin now or wait until the new effects roll out. The Sacred Skies skin remains available in the store until Sept. 11.
Broader Context in Season 9.5
As of Season 9.5, Storm has eight skins total—including just one Legendary outfit, Goddess of Thunder. Alongside addressing the community feedback regarding the Sacred Skies tier, NetEase hinted that more Legendary skins are planned for Storm over the rest of the year.
The developer also addressed player behavior following the initial backlash, reminding the community that staff harassment is unacceptable. Meanwhile, other summer content continues to roll out in Season 9.5, including the Krakoan Reels Vol.2 event with skins for Star-Lord, Black Cat, and Winter Soldier, alongside a Pop & Win gacha in the store for Scarlet Witch and Magik.
