The Nest update, released on June 25, added a fresh set of tools to White Knuckle, including a new firearm and the versatile Rapier sword. As a Major Artifact, the Rapier offers infinite uses and creates new possibilities for both movement and combat, making it a powerful addition to your loadout if you can track one down.
How to Find the Rapier
Because the Rapier is an artifact, it is not guaranteed to spawn in every run. You can find it through the following methods:
- Campaign Mode: Complete the Delta Labs at the end of the Habitation sector. You will be presented with two random artifacts; if the Rapier is among them, select it. Remember that if you choose the other option, the Rapier will disappear.
- Endless Mode: You can earn the sword by completing a Rho Challenge inside Break Rooms, or you may be able to select it at the very start of a new run.
Once acquired, you can use the Rapier in every run unless you sacrifice it at a Rho Alter in Abyss.
Mastering Rapier Movement and Combat
While the Hammer is a staple for early-game tasks like destroying crates and setting Pitons, the Rapier is arguably more efficient for experienced players. It performs similarly to advanced perks like Rabbit DNA or Ligament Restructure, providing unpredictable but effective movement.
Traversal Tips:
- Charging: You must charge the Rapier before moving. Point it at the ground for a large jump, or toward a wall to scale it.
- Chaining: You can chain lunges by charging the blade mid-animation.
- Climbing: Use the Rapier to lunge toward a surface and use your free hand to grab hold. Keep an eye on the blade—if it flashes red, your grip is weakening, and you need to find a ledge quickly to avoid falling.
Combat Utility:
Don't rely on the Rapier solely as a weapon, as its movement can be fiddly in the heat of battle. However, when charged, it is highly effective at one-shotting Bloodbugs. Because it allows for mid-air jumps, it can effectively replace the Overwhelmed Perk, provided you have the skill to master its steep learning curve.
