Paradox Interactive has released the latest update for Hearts of Iron IV, marking the final pre-summer patch for the Thunder At Our Gates expansion. Version 1.19.2 focuses on a wide array of balance adjustments and stability fixes, ensuring a more stable experience while the team takes a limited office presence over the summer months.

⚡ Quick Facts
  • Update: Hearts of Iron IV Patch 1.19.2
  • Rollback Available: Yes, version 1.19.1
  • Focus: Balance, AI logic, and stability
  • Summer Plan: New Open Beta planned for balance issues

Balance and Gameplay Adjustments

The update introduces several critical balance changes, particularly for nations featured in the latest content. Players managing Australia, Indonesia, and Siam will notice significant shifts in gameplay mechanics:

  • Australia (AST): The 'Australian Military Forces' spirit has seen a reduction in Non-Core Attack/Defense values, and the 'Citizen Army' penalty has been eased from -25% to -15%. Additionally, the 'Singapore Strategy' focus is now available to Australia if they control Singapore, not just the UK.
  • Indonesia (INS): Feint uprisings now carry a higher manpower cost (5,000) but a lower equipment requirement. Indonesia is now set to core all starting states during the revolution.
  • Siam (SIA): Starting stability has been increased to 29%, and the 'Unconventional Tank Designs' spirit now carries a -5% Soft attack penalty instead of a reliability penalty.

General balance changes also include a reduction in the 'Expeditionary Leader' trait's Non-Core Attack and Defense bonuses, down from +15% to +10%. The 'Spirit of St. Bernard' has also been tuned to prevent the unintended issue of creating "unending armies of resurrected zombie Swiss."

AI Improvements and Stability

The update addresses several technical issues, including crashes related to the 'gain_xp' command on fleets without admirals and errors when assigning Field Marshals to Army Groups. Late-game Out of Sync (OOS) issues caused by MIOs have also been resolved.

AI behavior has been refined across several nations:

  • UK: Increased tendency to build synthetic refineries to bolster rubber supply and a higher priority on 'Gateway to Europe' decisions in historical mode.
  • Japan: Now more likely to naval invade Borneo.
  • Italy: The AI will now utilize historical fighter designs.
  • USA: Added logic for home guard defense to protect the continent once the Axis threat escalates.

How to Access Previous Saves

For players currently in the middle of a campaign, the developer has provided a rollback option to version 1.19.1. This ensures that save files remain compatible while users transition to the latest build. This can be accessed through the Steam properties menu under the 'Game Versions & Betas' tab. For those seeking deeper balance changes, the team announced that a new Open Beta will run throughout the summer to address community feedback that didn't make the cut for this patch.
