Ubisoft has officially pulled back the curtain on the technical specifications for Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced. With the game just under two weeks away from its July 9, 2026, release date on PlayStation 5, the developer has detailed exactly how the title will perform across both the base PS5 and the upcoming PS5 Pro.
Players can expect three distinct graphical presets: Performance, Fidelity, and Balanced. While these modes are available on both consoles, the PS5 Pro aims to deliver a superior experience by leveraging PSSR 2 for upscaling and utilizing more advanced ray tracing techniques.
- Release Date: July 9, 2026
- Platform: PlayStation 5
- Key Technology: PSSR 2 (PS5 Pro), Strand-based hair simulation
- Performance Targets: 30FPS, 40FPS, and 60FPS modes
Graphical Modes and Ray Tracing
Ubisoft has confirmed that ray tracing will be a significant part of the visual presentation. On the base PS5, the Performance mode utilizes standard ray tracing for global illumination, while the Fidelity and Balanced modes step this up to "Extended" ray tracing, which includes support for reflective surfaces. On the PS5 Pro, the Extended ray tracing implementation is standard across all three modes.
According to the official breakdown, the modes function as follows:
Base PS5 Modes
- Performance: 2160p upscaled, 60FPS, Standard Ray Tracing
- Fidelity: 2160p upscaled, 30FPS, Extended Ray Tracing
- Balanced: 2160p upscaled, 40FPS, Extended Ray Tracing
PS5 Pro Modes
- Performance: 2160p upscaled via PSSR 2, 60FPS, Extended Ray Tracing
- Fidelity: 2160p upscaled via PSSR 2, 30FPS, Extended Ray Tracing
- Balanced: 2160p upscaled via PSSR 2, 40FPS, Extended Ray Tracing
PS5 Pro Exclusive Enhancements
Beyond resolution and frame rate, the PS5 Pro version introduces more detailed character work. Ubisoft is utilizing "strand-based hair" technology, moving away from traditional hair cards to simulate individual strands. This feature allows for more natural movement in response to wind and is active for the protagonist, Edward, across all graphical modes on the Pro console. This technology will also be visible on all characters during cutscenes.
Ubisoft notes that the PS5 Pro enhancements are designed to provide "richer lighting and reflection quality" while maintaining stable performance targets. Whether you are aiming for the high-speed 60FPS experience or prefer the visual density of the Fidelity mode, the PS5 Pro is positioned to offer the most polished version of the game at launch.
