Xbox leadership is focusing its future strategy on three primary Bethesda franchises, identifying Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, and Starfield as core pillars for the studio. Following recent announcements regarding a new roadmap for these titles, Xbox boss Asha Sharma highlighted specific performance milestones for each series.

Key Franchise Performance Milestones

In a statement confirming the importance of these IPs to both Xbox and Bethesda, Sharma provided the following statistics:

  • The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim: Surpassed 65 million units sold, placing it among the 10 best-selling games of all time.
  • Fallout 4: Exceeded 35 million units sold, ranking within the top 25 best-selling games.
  • Starfield: Tracking toward over 1 billion hours played.

These comments follow the "five realities" of the "Xbox Reset" outlined in June 2026 by Sharma and Xbox Vice President Matt Booty, where leadership noted that while these franchises hold significant player demand, they had not been adequately funded to compete effectively. The current strategy appears to be a direct response to that assessment, with plans to prioritize these major titles in the coming years.

Future Collaboration and Development

The roadmap for these franchises includes several key partnerships and projects. Bethesda has confirmed an upcoming collaboration with Obsidian on a new Fallout entry and is moving toward a deeper working relationship with ZeniMax Online Studios for The Elder Scrolls. Additionally, Bethesda Game Studios recently announced two Fallout remasters as part of its updated long-term plan.

While these three franchises are receiving a high level of focus, Xbox leadership clarified that the broader Bethesda studio output will remain diverse. Other ZeniMax-owned studios are expected to continue delivering titles across established series such as DOOM, Quake, and Wolfenstein. Even so, the current directive suggests a future where Xbox leans heavily into its most recognizable intellectual property through a mix of new sequels, remakes, and remasters as it enters the "Project Helix" generation.
