Reforj developer teams have rolled out Title Update 8, delivering a stunning Rixel transformation that completely shifts the game's visual direction on Xbox Series X|S consoles. Following six months of development, the update touches every corner of the game, spanning environmental textures, characters, and mobs.

Quick Facts

  • Update: Title Update 8
  • Platform: Xbox Series X|S (via Xbox Insider Hub)
  • Core Feature: Rixel visual engine transformation
  • Storage Impact: 98.2% reduction in texture file sizes

How Rixels Change the Game

Traditional voxel-style games often rely on square pixels that struggle with diagonal lines and fine details. To solve this, the engineering team designed Rixels as the core building blocks for Reforj's new visual identity. Unlike standard pixels, Rixels currently support up to 23 unique geometric shapes, with each shape handling distinct material properties such as roughness and metallic levels.

Beyond visual sharpness and readability, the technical shift brings major efficiency gains. Under the previous system, a single 512x512 texture consumed approximately 4MB of storage. With Rixels, that exact texture requires roughly 72KB, marking a 98.2% reduction. This storage drop gives developers more flexibility to create content, experiment with new materials, and expand the game as development continues.
