The public Xbox system update for August 12th has officially begun rolling out to Xbox consoles, bringing six new features and critical stability fixes. While the update applies across the ecosystem, Forza Horizon 6 is currently the exclusive launch title for a heavily requested safety feature addressing data corruption.
Quick Facts
- Platform: Xbox Series X (system-wide update)
- Release Date: August 12th, 2026
- Key Forza Horizon 6 Addition: Manual restoration of older cloud saves directly from the console interface
- Cloud Integration: Play a game via Xbox Cloud Gaming while its required update downloads in the queue
How Forza Horizon 6 Cloud Save Restoration Works
Corrupted save files can ruin hundreds of hours of progress in open-world racing games. With this update, Xbox consoles now support restoring previously synced cloud saves directly on hardware without needing external support. Forza Horizon 6 is the first title to support this capability, allowing players to browse available save versions and roll back an earlier iteration if a corruption issue arises.
To access this function on Xbox Series X, players need to open Manage game & add-ons, select Saved data, and choose Restore saved data. Support for additional titles is planned for future system updates.
What Else Is Included in the August Update?
Beyond the save-recovery tool for Forza Horizon 6, the August 12th update introduces five other major additions to the Xbox experience:
- Cloud Play While Updating: If a game requires an update, Game Pass members can immediately launch and stream the title via the cloud while the update queues in the background.
- Xbox 360 Game Hubs: Installed Xbox 360 games now feature dedicated game cards with achievement progress, game captures, and improved cloud save sync state symbols.
- Achievement Upgrades: Detailed achievement popups now appear from any Xbox 360 profile list, and Windows Phone games now show up in overall achievement history.
- Expanded Wishlists: Wishlists now support up to 1,000 games, and titles can be added directly from game cards.
- Subscription Badges: The Manage Installation page now displays clear badges indicating if a base game or add-on is granted via a subscription service.
Bug Fixes and Stability Improvements
The patch also resolves a handful of specific technical problems reported by users:
- Fixed a crash that occurred when scrolling through pages in My games & apps.
- Resolved an issue displaying Chinese characters on the on-screen keyboard in the Canadian French locale.
- Applied general stability and performance fixes.
Players can pull the update immediately by visiting the system updates menu, or wait for automatic background installation over the coming hours.
