Over two years after its original debut on Steam, the breakout indie horror hit Buckshot Roulette is officially making the jump to consoles. Publisher Critical Reflex announced today that the game, developed by Mike Klubnika, is now available on Xbox platforms, including a launch on Game Pass.
The game has seen explosive growth since its late 2023 release. According to figures shared by the publisher, Buckshot Roulette has sold over 9 million copies and garnered more than 100,000 reviews on Steam. This follows a massive surge from the 4 million units sold in December 2024, a milestone the team described as "insane."
A High-Stakes Horror Experience
Buckshot Roulette offers a grim, tactical twist on the traditional Russian roulette format. Instead of a handgun, players face off using a 12-gauge shotgun loaded with a mix of live rounds and blanks. The core gameplay loop involves deciding who to target—including yourself—to survive the round.
The experience is deepened by roguelike elements, where players acquire various items and accessories to influence their odds. These can include perks that grant extra lives or increase the damage dealt by live ammunition. While the game can be played solo, it supports up to 4-player action, which is widely considered the most engaging way to play. The constant debate and "politicking" over who should take the next shot is a central part of the appeal, as seen during the real-world Buckshot Roulette event at PAX East, where players gathered around a physical table to replicate the game's intense social dynamic.
Future Console Ports and Physical Additions
While Xbox players can jump into the chaos today, those waiting for other platforms will have to remain patient. Critical Reflex confirmed that ports for PlayStation and Nintendo Switch are still in development; however, the studio has been working through technical difficulties that have slowed down the process.
Beyond the digital releases, the team is expanding the game's footprint with new merchandise and a physical edition of the soundtrack. While there has been no official word on a physical disc or cartridge release for the game itself, the publisher has remained highly responsive to the community's enthusiasm. Reflecting on the journey, the team noted that seeing the game move from early development to global events like PAX and the Tokyo Game Show has been "unreal."
Whether you're looking for a dark, strategic horror game or just a way to test your nerves with friends, Buckshot Roulette is now ready to play on Xbox. You can find more Xbox and PC gaming news right here as we track further updates on the console rollout.
