Flyaway Games has officially released Ascend to ZERO, a time-bending action roguelike available today for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, and Xbox Cloud. The title is also featured as an Xbox Play Anywhere release and is included in the Xbox Game Pass library at launch.
Quick Facts
- Developer: Flyaway Games
- Platforms: Xbox Series X|S, PC, Xbox Cloud
- Launch Date: July 13, 2026
- Key Feature: Time-stop mechanics and 30-second run cycles
Mastering the 30-Second Sprint
At the core of the experience is a 30-second time limit. Players operate within this window, fighting enemies and collecting upgrades to survive. The clock is central to every decision: taking damage reduces the remaining time, turning the survival loop into a high-pressure management challenge. When the timer hits zero, the player is pulled back to the present.
To navigate these fast-paced encounters, the game centers on a unique time-stop mechanic. Triggering this ability freezes the entire battlefield, allowing players to gather experience points, dodge otherwise unavoidable attacks, and set up devastating combos. Once time resumes, all accumulated gadget and skill effects trigger simultaneously.
Refined Combat and Progression
Flyaway Games has focused heavily on the "first run" experience following the game's initial reveal in March. The team implemented a new difficulty system, an in-game guide, and an overhauled handbook to ensure players can grasp the mechanics regardless of their experience level. Character balance has also been adjusted to ensure each Avatar offers a distinct playstyle.
Combat emphasizes positioning over manual aiming, as weapons automatically lock onto nearby threats. This allows players to prioritize movement and the strategic use of time-stops. Within a single run, character power scales rapidly—climbing from level 1 into the hundreds of thousands—with growth curves varying based on the chosen Avatar and the specific chips or gadgets collected.
Late-Game Tension
The developer also detailed updates to the late-game stages, which now focus on "routing." As a run progresses, the map becomes more dangerous and rewards become time-sensitive, forcing players to choose their path carefully. These final stages culminate in boss showdowns designed to test the efficacy of the player's build, with the pacing tuned to keep the intensity high without becoming overwhelming.
