Terrible Toybox has officially confirmed that production is underway on a sequel to its 2017 point-and-click adventure, Thimbleweed Park. Announced by studio founder Ron Gilbert, the new title is currently slated for an early 2028 release.
Quick Facts
- Release Window: Early 2028
- Platforms: Windows, Mac, and Linux (via Steam and GOG)
- Key Staff: Original Thimbleweed Park team, including Ron Gilbert, Gary Winnick, Mark Ferrari, and David Fox
- Development Status: Production has recently commenced
What to Expect from the Sequel
In a blog post shared on the Grumpy Gamer website, Gilbert described the project as a "whodunit" that continues the strange tone of its predecessor. The story returns to the town of Thimbleweed Park, where Agents Ray and Reyes are once again tasked with investigating a dead body—this time located at the Edmund Mansion.
Despite the connection to the first game, the developers have clarified that the new entry is not strictly a sequel or a prequel. The team maintains that the game will feature the same style of gameplay that characterized the original, which served as a spiritual successor to classic SCUMM titles like Maniac Mansion and The Secret of Monkey Island.
Development and Availability
Terrible Toybox is self-publishing the title with the support of a private investor. The project reunites the core creative team behind the first game, with the addition of developers Octavi Navarro and Robert Megone. To mark the announcement, the studio has placed the original Thimbleweed Park on sale across Steam, Switch, iOS, and Google Play.
Players interested in following the development cycle can monitor updates via Ron Gilbert’s personal blog, where he plans to share progress as the 2028 release window approaches.
