Starry Studio has confirmed that its post-apocalyptic multiplayer survival title, Once Human, will officially launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles on August 25, 2026. While the game has been available on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store since July 2024, and on mobile devices since April 2025, this release marks the title's debut on home consoles.
Alongside the console launch, the developer announced that the PC version of the game will also become available via the Microsoft Store. While Once Human remains a free-to-play experience, players looking for a head start can now pre-order a “Starter Pack” bundle. Priced at $9.99 (£9.49 / €11.99 / ¥1,760), the bundle includes a 30-day Meta Pass, 300 Crystgin, and several exclusive cosmetic items, including a “Black Gold Butterfly” cradle skin, a “Lively Blue” wish machine skin, and three weapon skins from the “Midnight Rave” set. Pre-ordering also grants players a platform-exclusive namecard and theme.
Surviving the Stardust Apocalypse
Set in a world transformed by an extraterrestrial substance known as Stardust, Once Human tasks players with navigating a 256 km² seamless map. As a “Meta-Human,” players are uniquely capable of harnessing Stardust rather than being consumed by it. The gameplay loop centers on survival mechanics, including hunting, farming, and building custom bases that can be placed anywhere in the open world.
The game’s environment is vast and varied, ranging from active volcanoes and frozen tundras to swamps and deserts. Combat plays a significant role, requiring players to team up to defeat monstrous aberrations that have overtaken the world. Starry Studio emphasizes that strategy and teamwork are essential for securing resources and surviving encounters with both AI threats and rival players.
Gameplay and Companion Mechanics
A unique feature of Once Human is the inclusion of “Deviations”—strange creatures that can be recruited to assist the player. These companions range from resource-gathering assistants and tiny dragon chefs to combat-ready alpacas. Players are encouraged to build homes for these creatures and maintain their happiness, as neglected Deviants may rebel against their owners.
