If you have been holding off on earning the Platinum trophy for inFAMOUS 2, you have exactly until the end of August to wrap it up. Sony has officially announced that it is shuttering the online services for the PlayStation 3 title, a move that will render one specific trophy—and by extension, the game's Platinum—impossible to unlock.

The Impact of the Upcoming Server Shutdown

The issue stems from the game's heavy reliance on user-generated content (UGC). Players have been able to use built-in tools to create, upload, and play custom missions since the game's 2011 launch. However, as of August 31, 2026, those servers are going offline permanently.

The primary concern for completionists is the bronze trophy titled "UGC Veteran." This trophy requires players to successfully complete 25 different user-generated missions. With the UGC servers being pulled, these custom missions will become inaccessible, effectively locking out anyone who hasn't earned the trophy by the August deadline.

A Growing Issue for PS3 Preservation

The situation serves as a stark reminder of the limitations surrounding PlayStation's approach to backward compatibility. inFAMOUS 2, developed by Sucker Punch, remains trapped on the aging PS3 architecture nearly 15 years after its release. Unlike titles that have received modern ports or remasters, inFAMOUS 2 has not been brought to the PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5, leaving it tethered to the original hardware and its increasingly fragile online infrastructure.

While some players may hope for a retroactive patch from Sony to remove the trophy requirement or auto-unlock it, such a scenario remains unlikely. Given that the company has shown no current signs of revisiting the inFAMOUS franchise, the impending shutdown is expected to be final. For now, the only way to secure that Platinum trophy is to jump into the game and complete those 25 missions before the August 31 cutoff.
