Falcom has officially signaled its intent to extend its current initiative of modernizing older entries in the Trails series. Following the commercial and critical performance of Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter, studio president Toshihiro Kondo confirmed in a recent video interview with GungHo that the developer intends to produce further remakes.
Future of the Trails Remake Initiative
Addressing the difficulty new players often face when approaching a saga that now spans 13 titles, Kondo explained that the Trails in the Sky remakes were designed as accessible entry points. The success of the first release has provided the team with the necessary encouragement to maintain this development path.
Regarding the scope of the project, Kondo mentioned that members of his development team are already discussing potential candidates for future remakes, specifically citing Trails in the Sky the 3rd and Trails from Zero. While these titles are under consideration, the studio has not yet provided a confirmed release schedule for further projects beyond the upcoming Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter.
Current Development Priorities
The studio is currently balancing multiple projects, including the Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter remake and the ongoing saga that recently saw the release of Trails beyond the Horizon. While the Sky remakes are intended to act as a gateway for new players, the developer continues to support the series' core trajectory, with the most recent mainline entry ending on a cliffhanger that suggests future developments are already in progress.
