What Shuhei Yoshida Said About Bloodborne

Speaking at the Computer Entertainment Developers Conference, former PlayStation Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida voiced his confusion regarding the game's absence on modern hardware. Translated by GamesRadar+, Yoshida described himself as a huge fan asking where the PS5 and PC ports are.

“This game has a lot of fans all over the world, and it still doesn’t have a PS5 version,” Yoshida said. “PlayStation’s first-party team is releasing a ton of remasters, so why don’t they release this one? There’s no PC release. I am often asked why these haven’t been released, but it’s a complete mystery. Maybe they’ll come out in the future. Maybe they won’t. Maybe they’ll make a special edition. Maybe they won’t. As a huge fan, I hope it will come out.”

Behind-the-Scenes Roadblocks

Reports indicate that Bluepoint pitched a Bloodborne remake, but FromSoftware ultimately shut it down. Sony is reportedly respecting director Hidetaka Miyazaki’s wishes to stay involved in anything related to the game moving forward. However, Miyazaki has previously expressed that he is not opposed to a PC port, musing that he would "get in trouble" if he said he wanted one.

Official PC port hopes face further hurdles after PlayStation quietly confirmed earlier in the year that it would stop launching flagship single-player games on Steam following disappointing sales, which reportedly included the cancellation of a Ghost of Yotei port. Despite the lack of an official remaster, modders have demonstrated that the PS5 hardware can easily run the game at 60fps and 4K with minimal tweaks. Sony has also not completely abandoned the IP, with an animated movie currently in development featuring Seán ‘Jacksepticeye’ McLoughlin attached as a producer.
