Design Influences and Creative Process

Arc System Works has offered a behind-the-scenes look at the creative direction behind Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, the upcoming fighter for PlayStation 5. In a recent 17-minute documentary, the developers—alongside partners from Marvel Games and PlayStation—outlined how they approached the character designs to provide a fresh take on familiar heroes.

A primary example cited is Iron Man. The team revealed they initially struggled with the character's conceptualization until Marvel Games suggested a 'Samurai Iron Man' design. This concept, combined with influences from mecha manga and anime series such as Gundam and Getter Robo, helped define the final aesthetic for the character.

Story Mode and Audio Features

The game's single-player story mode, titled Episodes, aims to bridge different artistic cultures. The narrative will be presented through comic book panels, with the team recruiting a variety of artists to contribute work that spans both traditional Western comic styles and manga aesthetics.

The audio design is also built around this concept of variety. The developers have brought in multiple musicians to craft the soundtrack, utilizing dynamic stems to ensure the music adapts to the intensity and flow of individual battles.
