Developer Beatrate SRL has announced Weather the Swarm, an upcoming sci-fi action roguelite built around solo play and co-op runs with fully destructible environments. Slated to release in 2027, the game draws inspiration from classic run 'n' gun titles while equipping players with jetpacks to navigate chaotic, procedurally generated levels.

Quick Facts

  • Developer: Beatrate SRL
  • Release Window: 2027
  • Platforms: PC (Steam, with Proton/Wine compatibility)
  • Player Count: Solo and up to 4 players (online and local couch co-op)

Destructible Terrain and Frenetic Gameplay

Gameplay centers on explosive, fast-paced action where the environment can be completely torn apart. As players progress through procedurally generated biomes, they collect a wide variety of weapons and modular perks to modify their character build on the fly.

The core challenge revolves around periodic assaults from the Swarm, which grows progressively stronger as runs advance, keeping the pressure high for both solo adventurers and groups. Each biome culminates in a distinct boss fight designed to test the loadouts assembled during the run.

Built for Couch Co-Op

Lead game designer Tommaso Gandini noted that the team's objective was to build a challenging roguelike that functions equally well for solo players and groups gathered together on the couch. CEO Antonio Dal Cin added that the project draws from childhood memories of sharing video games and pizza nights with friends.

Weather the Swarm has been optimized for both mouse and keyboard setups and traditional game controllers. PC players looking to track the title ahead of its 2027 launch can find it listed on Steam.
