A new update for Unknown on PC is now live, introducing a suite of requested quality-of-life improvements, accessibility options, and technical fixes. The patch focuses heavily on player control and stability, addressing common frustrations ranging from navigation errors to voice communication settings.
Key Features and Accessibility
The update introduces a highly requested Push-to-Talk functionality. Accessible via the Voice Chat settings, this allows players to maintain better control over their comms, including proximity chat. Default keybinds are set to 'V' on the keyboard and the Left Shoulder button for gamepads.
Accessibility has also been expanded with the addition of Color Vision Filters in the video settings, designed to assist players with color vision deficiencies. Additionally, players can now rebind mouse buttons and utilize a new mouse smoothing option for more precise camera and cursor control.
Navigation and Stability Improvements
Players experiencing issues with environment geometry can now utilize two new Unstuck mechanics. The system now includes an automatic reallocation feature for those caught in the environment, alongside a manual 'Unstuck' button found in the Pause Menu that teleports players to a safe location after a brief delay.
Whiteboard functionality has been reworked to prevent line spamming and improve performance. The previous per-player stroke limit has been replaced with a shared board-wide capacity, and a new private mode can now be toggled via settings or direct interaction.
Gameplay and Balance Adjustments
- Difficulty Tuning: Acid rain frequency has been reduced on Normal difficulty, with increased grace periods between storms. Conversely, Normal rain now has a chance to occur on Hard difficulty.
- UI and Navigation: Doppler radar indicators have been updated from dots to directional arrows for better clarity.
- Achievement Tracking: New icons have been added to the Van Schematic screen to help track the Protocol Nerd achievement, which now functions with cumulative progress.
- Door Mechanics: The time required for doors to close has been reduced.
The development team also addressed several specific bugs, including a crash triggered by the F5 Tornado, instances of players taking weather damage while inside closets, and various animation issues affecting portable items like flashlights and dopplers.
Known Issues
While this update addresses numerous community reports, the developers have acknowledged several ongoing issues currently under investigation, including:
- System crashes on certain AMD Graphics GPUs.
- Instances of items spawning outside map borders.
- Intermittent inability to interact with specific items like crowbars or vending machine purchases.
- Performance degradation during menu navigation or when using Alt+Tab.
- Voice chat instability in specific lobby configurations.
