Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog have confirmed that Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, the upcoming reimagining of Lara Croft’s 1996 debut, is now set for a February 12, 2027, release. The title will launch simultaneously on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.

Quick Facts

  • Release Date: February 12, 2027
  • Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2
  • Developer: Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog (Amazon Game Studios)
  • Key Focus: Returning to classic, high-flying Lara Croft acrobatics

Prioritizing Lara’s Acrobatics

In a recent behind-the-scenes update, the development team highlighted that restoring Lara Croft’s signature movement is central to the project. Director Raul Siqueira noted that in this iteration, Lara does not simply step aside to avoid danger; she uses cartwheels, swan dives, and handstands to navigate the environment. The team emphasized that these classic abilities are essential to defining the character, contrasting this new direction with the grittier, more grounded approach seen in the previous Tomb Raider trilogy.

Principal technical game designer Grzegorz Grzywacz explained that the team struggled early on to ensure the movement felt authentic. "A regular jump isn't a Lara Croft regular jump," said creative director Michal Kuk, noting that the team is dedicated to getting the feel of her traversal and combat movement exactly right for a new generation of players.

Performance and Motion Capture

Actress Alix Wilton Regan, who portrays Lara in the new title, has undergone extensive physical training—including weight training, yoga, and rock climbing—to capture the character's agility. During episodes of the game's mini-docuseries, Regan was shown in mocap gear exploring terrain and performing combat stunts. At IGN Live 2026, Regan mentioned that the motion capture process involved intense, multi-week sessions to bring that confidence and physical capability to the role.

Early previews of the game, including a look provided at Summer Game Fest 2026, have noted that the emphasis on these classic movement mechanics helps make the 30-year-old source material feel fresh. Developers have confirmed that players will be able to practice these acrobatic skills in dedicated sections of the game before heading out into the primary exploration areas.
