Bethesda Game Studios chief Todd Howard has broken a six-month social media silence, posting on the r/games subreddit to address fans following the studio's recent release roadmap announcement. Howard, who described himself as a “professional lurker,” stated that the developer is actively monitoring community feedback to help shape the future of its titles.

Bethesda’s Future Roadmap

The post arrives alongside a broader disclosure of the studio’s upcoming projects. Bethesda has confirmed the following status for its core franchises:

  • The Elder Scrolls 6: Currently the primary focus of Bethesda Game Studios.
  • Fallout 5: Now officially in pre-production.
  • Fallout Remasters: Projects for both Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are in development.
  • New Fallout Title: Obsidian Entertainment is working on a new entry in the series.
  • Starfield: Remains a key focus, with new Starborn DLC expected in 2027.

This increased communication comes as Microsoft’s gaming division, under CEO Asha Sharma, moves to prioritize its core franchises following recent layoffs across the organization. The company’s strategy involves accelerating the development of both the The Elder Scrolls and Fallout series.

Player Feedback and Technical Concerns

Following Howard's post, community members immediately directed requests toward the studio, specifically regarding the current state of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. Despite the game reaching over 9 million players, users have noted that the PC version has not received a patch since July 2025, with reports of performance degradation during extended play sessions.

While Howard noted that he gets “great ideas” from Reddit and encouraged fans to keep providing feedback, he stopped short of confirming a timeline for a new Oblivion patch. The title is slated for a Nintendo Switch 2 release on August 11, 2026, which some players hope may coincide with a broader update for all platforms.

Upcoming Fallout Events

Bethesda has adjusted its event schedule for the coming years. There will be no traditional Fallout Day broadcast in 2026. Instead, the studio is planning a live event in Washington, D.C. in 2027 to celebrate the franchise's 30th anniversary. Additionally, a major expansion for Fallout 76, titled Raven Rock, is scheduled for next year, serving as a narrative prequel to Fallout 3.
