It has been less than two months since Subnautica 2 launched into Steam early access, and developer Unknown Worlds is already rolling out its first substantial content drop. The “Adaptive Measures” update, which is live now on PC and Xbox, focuses heavily on refining the game's core systems with a suite of quality-of-life upgrades and expanded content.
Expanding the Biomod System
A primary focus of this update is the Biomod system, which has received a series of adjustments to make progression feel more consistent throughout the early game. Players can now discover a total of six Biolabs across the map, up from the previous four, with new locations added to the Coral Gardens and Axum Ruins.
Unknown Worlds has also introduced more transparency and flexibility to the system:
- Players can now unlock additional passive Biomod slots by using the Bioscanner on creatures.
- The game now provides clear feedback on the number of total Bioscans completed and the specific requirements for each slot unlock.
- Creative mode users will find all Biomods unlocked by default.
Refining Wildlife and Base Building
The update also makes significant tweaks to how players interact with the environment. Creatures now exhibit clearer "fleeing" behavior when attacked by the Survival Multitool, and hitting them with the Sonic Resonator will trigger a brief dizzy state, preventing immediate retaliation. Additionally, the developers have improved particle fish grouping and updated the scan data icons for the Periscopic Clowncrab and the Necrolei.
For those focused on construction, base building has seen several requested improvements:
- Placement Clarity: The Vehicle Dock and Fabricator have been adjusted to fit into smaller rooms and align more easily with hatches, and their overall footprint has been reduced.
- Construction Logic: Placement ghosts are now easier to read when positioned behind objects or near the water surface.
- Storage: A new storage unit has been added that allows players to stash items without them being pulled into the active crafting system.
- Docking Feedback: New messages will now clarify when a Moonpool needs to be enlarged to accommodate specific vehicles.
The update also includes a wide array of general bug fixes. Players can view the full patch notes on the official Subnautica 2 website.
