Stellar Blade Rated for Nintendo Switch 2, ESRB Confirms No Censorship

A release date for the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Stellar Blade may be arriving soon. The title has officially been rated by the ESRB, a key indicator that the port is moving through the final stages of its launch process.

First announced during a Nintendo Direct around Summer Game Fest, the Switch 2 edition of Shift Up's action game is currently slated for a general 2026 release. With the year now more than halfway over, the new ESRB filing provides the most concrete evidence to date that an official date is imminent.

Addressing Censorship Concerns

The rating effectively puts to rest concerns regarding potential content restrictions on Nintendo's hardware. Earlier this year, the release of Dispatch on the platform sparked confusion when the game arrived with mandatory censorship that neither the developer, AdHoc, nor Nintendo took responsibility for.

Given Stellar Blade’s focus on intense combat and the character design of its protagonist, Eve, some players feared a similar outcome. However, the ESRB description confirms that the Switch 2 version will feature the same mature content as its predecessors, including the use of strong language and the game's signature combat animations.

Looking Ahead

While the port offers an opportunity for new players to experience the original title, developer Shift Up is already working on a sequel. Titled Stellar Blade: Blood Rain, the next entry is set in the same universe but will feature a new protagonist. According to the developer, the team aims to provide more narrative substance in the sequel, acknowledging that they struggled with the characterization of the lead in the first game.

For those interested in the current title, the Nintendo Switch 2 version promises a parity experience to the version released on PlayStation 5 and PC in 2024.
