The Modding Legacy of XCOM
Bit Reactor is made up of former XCOM developers, a series known for its robust modding scene. XCOM 2 specifically benefited from official development tools and extensive community creations, including total conversions that transported players into the Star Wars universe. These mods have kept Firaxis' games active on player hard drives for years, making mod capability a heavily requested feature among fans discussing Zero Company in community Discord channels.
Post-Launch Plans and Community Expectations
While the developers have ruled out official tools for the game's release, Funk noted that the stance could change post-launch if the game proves to be a hit. The lack of official support stems from development priorities rather than microtransaction concerns, as the game features no microtransactions that player creations could undermine. Even without official tools, community members may still attempt customisations like alternative character models, gear, or campaign-length overhauls akin to XCOM 2's Long War 2 mod.
