Black Tabby Games is gearing up for a significant update to their horror-mystery title, Scarlet Hollow. With writing for the Episode 5 expansion now complete, the team is shifting focus toward art production. This isn't just a minor patch; the update brings roughly 70,000 words of new and remastered content, aimed at fleshing out the chapter and tightening the narrative stakes.

Expanding the Journey to the Farms
The expansion focuses heavily on the trip toward the farms, which Black Tabby aims to make feel more substantial and less abrupt. Players can expect more time with characters like Reese, Wayne, and Irma, alongside expanded routes for Stella. The update even introduces entirely new backgrounds to these areas.
Interaction is also getting a boost. You will have more opportunities to engage with Franklin from the back of the squad car following an arrest, and the church will now be a location you can visit for spiritual guidance. Furthermore, the drive to the farms will include more moments for Avery and Doctor Kelly, helping the chapter pace itself as a slow descent into trouble rather than a sudden shift in tone.
Refining Choices and Player Traits
For those romancing Reese with the Hot trait, the expansion adds more room to explore the town. However, the developers warn that this extra freedom comes with its own set of consequences, emphasizing the game’s core theme of risk and reward. Additionally, Julius is receiving more background context across most routes to help players stay grounded in the story, even if they missed specific scenes in earlier episodes.
The infamous Tabitha office confrontation has been rebalanced. The developers have nerfed the strongest strategies and buffed weaker ones, aiming to make the scene feel more tense rather than a puzzle with a single solution. The Keen Eye trait is also being updated to provide warnings before players lock in major relationship checks they are likely to fail, offering a helping hand to newcomers without stripping away the challenge for veterans.
Updates to Earlier Episodes
The developers are not ignoring the rest of the game. Episode 2 now features a confirmation screen before players commit to the "Roads Untraveled" route, noting that staying at the Estate might cause them to miss key context regarding Avery and Julius. Linux and PC players can also now return to the Estate after visiting town in Episode 2, opening up new exploration options at the General Store and Diner without forcing the library route.
Meanwhile, the "Roads Untraveled" mines route has been adjusted so that players no longer need the Street Smart trait to share contact information with the Isaacs. Snitching on the strike now offers more flexibility, potentially helping players avoid negative relationship hits with Tabitha while opening up new social paths.
Episode 3 is also seeing a change, as the Avery general store scene will now appear in all playthroughs, while Episode 4 is gaining a new, rare clinic resolution. With writing for Episode 6 already underway, this expansion serves as a major bridge, tightening the game's internal logic and deepening the dread of the rural setting.
