Aggro Games has officially released Scales of Silence 1.0, ending the title's one-month Early Access period. The full launch is now available on PC, Mac, and Linux via Steam, featuring 500 levels, 30 playable serpents, and support for up to eight local players.
Quick Facts
- Platforms: PC, Mac, and Linux
- Player Count: Up to 8 local players
- Content: 500 levels, 20 boss fights, and 10 distinct biomes
- Pricing: $2.99 USD (with a 40% launch discount)
Gameplay and Mechanics
The game centers on eight-player couch party combat where participants share a single screen without the use of split-screen boxes. Input is flexible; a single keyboard can accommodate four players by splitting into WASD, IJKL, Arrow Keys, and Numpad zones, while each gamepad can support two players. Matches offer four distinct modes: Score Battle, Timed Battle, Snake Royale, and Endless Classic.
Survival mechanics are based on the length of the player's serpent. Rather than instant elimination, taking damage cuts a portion of the serpent’s tail. Longer serpents can withstand more hits, while shorter ones gain speed and the ability to maneuver through tighter gaps. Beaten serpents are designed to return to the match quickly to keep the action moving.
Campaign and Progression
The campaign consists of 500 levels and 20 boss fights, playable solo or with one local partner. The story covers a conflict between two serpent factions, the Order and the Fangs, amidst a encroaching threat known as the Writhing. Players progress through 10 unique biomes that introduce environmental hazards, such as obscured vision in forests, scarce food in ice zones, or poisoned supplies in swamp areas. Defeating a boss unlocks that character for the player's permanent roster.
Technical Support and Launch Status
Developer Cinder utilized the one-month Early Access phase to gather player feedback, which directly informed the final polish and bug fixes included in the 1.0 update. The game supports 24 languages and offers offline play. While the game features native Linux support, confirmed details regarding Steam Deck optimization, Vulkan compatibility, or Proton performance have not been provided by the developer.
Scales of Silence is currently available on Steam with a 40% launch discount, pricing it at $2.99 USD / £2.03 / 2,13€ for a limited time.
