GSC Game World has announced that the first expansion for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl will launch on August 20, 2026. The release will arrive alongside a significant 2.0 update for the shooter, which was ported to PlayStation 5 last year.
What to Expect from the 2.0 Update and DLC
The upcoming expansion centers on the escalating tensions between the game's two major warring factions, Duty and Freedom. According to the developer, the narrative is designed to integrate with the main storyline and will feature:
- New explorable areas within the Zone.
- Additional enemies and weapon types.
- A story-driven campaign that promises dozens of hours of new content.
In addition to the paid expansion, the 2.0 update will be available to all players. This patch includes a technical overhaul, specifically upgrading the game's Unreal Engine 5 support to a newer version, alongside various other content improvements. GSC Game World has stated that further details regarding the full scope of the 2.0 patch notes will be shared closer to the August 20 launch date.
Current State of the Game
While S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl faced a difficult launch, subsequent updates have addressed many of the initial issues that hampered the PS5 experience. The game is currently positioned as a hardcore, unforgiving survival shooter, and this upcoming 2.0 overhaul is expected to further stabilize and expand the core experience for both returning players and those joining the Zone for the first time.
