Combat and Gameplay Mechanics

In Rubinite, players face off against a series of unique sentinels, ranging from an overclocked caterpillar to a swordswoman reminiscent of Elden Ring's Malenia. Ruby's primary weapon is a knife that deals minimal damage on its own. To overcome tougher foes, players must hold a controller trigger and use the analog stick to fill a bar that identifies and marks enemy weak points.

Ruby can mark weak points up to three times before executing a devastating attack. However, she cannot move while aiming, though precise dodging during this process immediately fills the meter. Taking damage removes any currently marked weak points, and the game lacks a block button, requiring players to memorize enemy animation timings.

As players progress, they level up and collect customisation options such as talismans that stun opponents or convert chip damage into health potions. Boss fights also introduce environmental wrinkles, including projectiles that can be bounced back toward attackers.

Hub Area and World Design

Between boss battles, players return to a shattered tower hub area to level up and interact with a small group of NPCs, including a lizard blacksmith and an owl-faced helmeted warrior. Defeating bosses expands the hub area, uncovering treasures in side rooms. The game features pixelgore and architecture blended with whimsical elements, drawing stylistic comparisons to Blasphemous.

The title is currently available for purchase on PC through Steam following the release of a playable demo.
