The law firm Anapol Weiss has filed two additional lawsuits against Roblox, marking the latest legal action in a series of more than 150 complaints brought against the platform and other social gaming companies, including Discord and Snap Inc. One of the new filings specifically names Snap Inc., the parent company of Snapchat, as a co-defendant.

Quick Facts

  • Lawsuits represent victims from Tillamook County, Oregon, and Jefferson Parish, Louisiana.
  • One plaintiff was groomed at age eight on a Roblox dress-up game; another at age 14 was moved to Snapchat by a predator.
  • Roblox now requires age checks for all users to access chat features.
  • The company has introduced 'Roblox Kids' and 'Roblox Select' accounts for users under 16.

The details disclosed in the new filings describe harrowing experiences. In the Oregon case, a plaintiff alleges she was groomed at age eight through a dress-up game on the platform, with the predator manipulating her into a false romantic relationship and attempting to convince her to run away. In the Louisiana case, a 14-year-old plaintiff was allegedly groomed on Roblox before being moved to Snapchat, where she was subjected to demands for photos and the receipt of sexually explicit images.

These complaints echo allegations previously raised by attorneys general in Florida, Texas, and Louisiana, who have questioned the platform's marketing as a kid-friendly environment while allegedly enabling predatory access. In response, a Roblox spokesperson stated that criminal behavior has no place on the platform and noted that the company maintains protections that exceed many other online services.

Current Safety Protocols

Roblox emphasizes that its system prohibits the sharing of images or videos in chat, a key distinction from third-party platforms where some of the alleged grooming behavior migrated. The platform's chat filters are engineered to block the sharing of social media handles or external links for users under 16 by default.

Furthermore, Roblox does not encrypt chat, allowing the company to monitor for inappropriate interactions and signals associated with grooming. When the platform detects violations, it reports the evidence to authorities and takes action against the offending accounts. As of January 2026, the platform requires all users to undergo age verification to access chat functionality. Independent testing by the Age Check Certification Scheme indicates this technology is accurate within 1.4 years for users under 18.

Parents are encouraged to visit the Roblox Safety Center to manage parental controls, review age check statuses, and access resources for navigating online safety as a family.
