Roblox's annual Egg Hunt is back for the first time since 2020, but the return has introduced friction between the platform's free-to-play culture and its publishing platform goals. Players have pushed back against a $30 price tag attached to the event.
Between 2008 and 2020, Roblox hosted official annual Egg Hunt events that invited players into free-to-play experiences where participation yielded limited-time egg-themed items as rewards. The return of the event marks a notable shift from those earlier iterations.
Ahead of the official return, Studio Koi Koi—the creator studio behind the 2018 edition of the event—launched a crowdfunding campaign in December 2025 to gauge player interest in reviving the concept. The $30 pricing structure for the current event has since surfaced tensions regarding monetization on the platform.
