The milestone highlights the enduring popularity of the Resident Evil back catalogue. Released in 2019, the Resident Evil 2 remake continues to shift copies, aided by subsequent franchise entries starring Leon S. Kennedy, including the Resident Evil 4 remake and Resident Evil Requiem.
Other recent entries in the series are also performing strongly. Resident Evil Requiem has reached 8 million copies sold, while the Resident Evil 4 remake stands at 16 million copies. Capcom noted that both titles could eventually challenge Resident Evil 2 for the top spot as they accumulate sales over time.

Across all titles, the entire Resident Evil franchise has now reached a combined 213 million copies sold. This total edges past the 212 million sales recorded by Square Enix's Final Fantasy franchise. Capcom's broader lineup also saw strong figures reported, including 30.45 million copies sold for Monster Hunter: World and 2.51 million for Pragmata.
Looking ahead, the franchise's upcoming schedule includes Zach Cregger's Resident Evil movie on September 16, followed by the release of Resident Evil Veronica sometime in 2027.
